A lot of them come with advanced features, like mapping, which helps them navigate around your home and keep track of furniture placement. They can also boost suction power to take on dirtier surfaces.
iRobot Roomba 694"
The Roomba by iRobot is a budget-friendly robot vacuum that works well on both plain flooring and carpets with low pile. It is able to suction well, but struggles with larger debris like sand or grains of rice. It also does a decent job at cleaning pet hair, but it's not immune to tangling like high-end Roomba models like the j7 or I6.
The Roomba 694 is easy to use. It has three buttons on the top cover. "Clean," which launches a cleaning session and 'Dock', which places it in its charging station, and 'Spot,' which activates an individualized cleaning. It is controlled by an app on your smartphone that lets you schedule or stop/start cycles, and also adjust settings. You can also connect the device with smart home devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant to control it by voice.
This vacuum cleaner is slower than some others, but can still reach most corners and crevices. It has a large dustbin, which is great for reducing the frequency which you need to empty it. It is compatible with virtual barriers and digital mapping, which allow you to set it to avoid specific areas or stop cleaning altogether if you want to keep it from getting stuck on something.
It's not the top in its price, but it's still superior to other models. The Roborock E4 has a better cleaning performance than the Roomba 694 and it can clean both carpets with low pile as well as bare. It also follows a more efficient cleaning path and has longer battery life. It also feels more durable and has fewer components that require regular maintenance, costs less to own over the course of its life and charges more quickly than the 694.
You should also consider other models from the iRobot range, like the v7 and the 981. The v7 and 981 are more expensive, but they have significant improvements in cleaning performance, both on low and bare pile floors. They also have a larger dirt compartment and charge faster, move more easily and are easier to pair up with smart home devices.
Shark RV1001AE IQ
This self-emptying robot with a budget does a good job on hard floors and carpets with low pile. Its combination brush reaches the edges and corners, and then automatically increases suction as soon as it detects carpet. It also does a great job of cleaning dirt off carpets in the middle of the pile. The IQ has a small footprint and also a self-emptying function. However, if you wish to alter the floor level on the map or create no-go zones you'll have to manually reset it to do this, which is a bit of a hassle.
The IQ app offers some advanced mapping and automated features, however it isn't equipped with no-go zones. These are only available on iRobot robots. The smart-pathing technology allows for greater maneuverability and the high-pile mode of its carpet cleaning mode is efficient however it can be caught on rug tassels.
In our tests, we found that the IQ was able to handle pet hair effectively. It was able to get rid of the majority of hair on floors that were unfinished and a decent amount of rug with a medium pile. It was a little less efficient on shag carpets, which was a struggle to reach dirt and dust embedded in the fibers. It did a good job of navigating chair legs, tight spaces, and the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was a little slower on flooring that was not fully covered but it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots we tested.
The IQ is a better option for most users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin, lasts longer on a charge and is capable of maneuvering itself over obstacles. It has mopping tools that can clean up sticky mess. On the other side, the iRobot is more durable and has fewer components that require maintenance or replacement and has lower recurring costs and can even create virtual no-go zones through its companion app. It can even resume a cleaning session from the point it started if it runs out of battery before having completed the task. The iRobot can be controlled by voice commands, which is a huge benefit for many users.
Eufy 11S
The eufy RoboVac 11S robot vacuum isn't among the most feature-rich models, but it does offer powerful cleaning power at a low cost. This vacuum was designed for consumers with a tight budget who do not require a complicated mapping system, or an app to control it. This robot can run for a long time and comes with a remote, cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base, and additional filters.
The 11S is slim, elegant and has a tempered glass upper deck that appears like brushed aluminum. It's a nice change from the industrial and utilitarian designs of Roomba, Samsung and Neato.
The eufy11S was successful in our tests of removing larger particles and fine dust from hard flooring. It was unable to thoroughly clean carpets with high and medium piles. The device also has a tendency to hit furniture and people in its path however, it is able to detect obstacles with sensors. If it encounters them it stops and lets out an alarm so that you can manually guide it through the obstacle before getting it back to work.
The BoostIQ mode is another great feature of the Eufy11S. It allows you to configure the robot to automatically adjust the suction strength based on the floor type and the amount of dirt. The remote control makes it simple to direct the 11S to the desired location.
Single Room Mode is a great option if you have little furniture in the space you want to vacuum. The eufy is capable of spending up to 30 minutes cleaning the space it is assigned.
Edge Cleaning is another option that limits the time spent on each area to a maximum of 20 minutes. This will maximize the battery's life. This feature allows the eufy to move in a spiraling manner cleaning edges and corners.
